U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature
The U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card is a well-rounded cash back credit card for those who want to actively choose which types of purchases receive the most cash back. In particular, this card comes with either 5% cash back or 2% cash back. With the 5% option, the cardholder can select two categories to receive this higher amount. But with the 2% category, they can choose only one. Aside from this feature, the credit card comes with 0% introductory APR for the first 15 months and has no annual fee.
Rewards Redemption
To redeem your rewards, log into your U.S. Bank Cash+ account and go to the Rewards Center page. You can request a statement credit, a reward card, or a deposit to be made into your U.S. Bank Checking, Savings, or Money Market account. Alternatively, call the Cardmember Services number listed on the back of your credit card and request a redemption that way.
You must have at least $25 worth of cash back to redeem it. Rewards cards come in increments of $5 (minimum $25).
Terms, Rates and Fees
U.S. Bank’s Cash+ Visa Signature Card comes with a variable APR ranging from 19.74% to 29.74%, based on creditworthiness and the current prime rate. The APR on cash advances is currently 29.99% (variable). There is no penalty APR.
Upon opening an account, however, new users are eligible for a 15-month 0% introductory APR rate for purchases and balance transfers. To receive this benefit, balance transfers must be made within the first 60 days.
Other fees include:
- 3% or $5 balance transfer and convenience check cash advance fee (which is higher)
- 5% or $10 cash advance fee (whichever is higher)
- 3% foreign transaction fee
- Up to 1.6% U.S. Bank ExtendPay fee
- $41 late payment and returned payment fee
This credit card has no annual fee. However, it also has no overdraft protection.
In terms of credit limit, it depends on the user’s credit score, income, and other relevant factors. It may be possible to request a higher limit after responsibly using this card for several months or more. The minimum payment amount depends on the card balance.
All in all, these terms and fees are standard for a cash back rewards credit card.
Maximize Benefits and Avoid Fees
- Purchase goods in the higher-tier categories. The more cash back you can earn with this card, the greater the ongoing value will be. To maximize benefits, use this credit card to pay for items in the categories you choose — specifically the 5% and 2% cash back tiers. For example, if you spend $2,000 at electronics stores each month and earn 5% cash back, you could receive around $560 in annual cash back. Or, if you spend $1,000 a month on groceries at 2% cash back, you could earn around $240 in annual cash back rewards.
- Select new categories. Be sure to also select new categories as required each quarter, or you won’t earn as much cash back.
- Don’t overspend. Although some categories offer a high amount of cash back, only spend what you can afford to pay back each month or you’ll be hit with interest.
- Use the 0% introductory APR. If you have a large purchase to make, do so soon after getting the card and make sure to pay off the full balance before the 15-month introductory period ends. That way, you can avoid interest charges. Alternatively, transfer a balance from a high-interest credit card to this one within the first 2 months to save money on interest.
- Get the bonus reward. Apply online and spend $1,000 within 120 days of opening an account to earn $200 extra dollars. This is a decent first-year value for new members.
