Plans and Pricing

AHS currently offers three plans: Systems Plan, Appliances Plan, and Combo Plan.

Unlike some home warranty plans which have a flat rate, the costs for AHS plans vary depending on a few factors like the level of coverage needed, the size of your home, the Trade Service Call fee selected at checkout, and any additional coverage that’s been added to your plan.

You can use a short form on their website to submit your home address, zip code, and email to get an immediate quote for each plan.

When buying a plan online, you’ll have the option to select the Trade Service Call Fee which will affect the plan’s monthly cost. This fee is what you pay every time you make a claim.

ShieldSilver Plan:

This plan covers the repair or replacement of parts and components of common home systems, like AC, heating, electrical, and more. Prices range from $29.99-$59.99 a month  (with a $100 Trade Service fee selected).

ShieldGold Plan:

This plan covers the repair or replacement of components of common home appliances, like refrigerators, washer/dryer, built-in microwaves, and more. Prices range from $29.99-$59.99 a month (with a $100 Trade Service fee selected).

ShieldPlatinum Plan:

This plan covers all items included in the systems and appliances plans, and at a better price. Prices range from $39.99-$69.99 a month (with a $100 Trade Service fee selected).

With any of their home warranty plans, coverage includes both the old and new.

When choosing a plan, you also have the option of selecting from their list of add-ons, which includes items like a pool, spa, septic pump, and more for an additional charge.

Service Fees

When buying a plan from AHS, you can select a service fee (Trade Service Call Fee) of $75, $100, or $125

You can select a higher fee for a lower monthly payment on a home warranty plan or select a lower fee to pay less when requesting a claim.

Payout Caps

Like all home warranty companies, AHS has payment caps and limitations for their systems and appliances, which can vary depending on the item.

For example, AHS will pay up to:

  • $1,500 per contract for the repair or replacement of air conditioning and heating systems.
  • $1,500 per contract for the repair or replacement of well pumps.
  • $1,000 per contract for plumbing services
  • $3,000 per contract for each covered appliance plan item

For appliances and other systems, American Home Shield will cover up to $500 per appliance per contract year.

Be sure to review their sample contract for full details on their coverage limitations and exclusions.

Exclusions

When comparing their plans online, click “See Plan Details” to see a full list of what items are included in each plan.

To see what the limitations and exclusions are, you’ll need to review their sample contract.

For example, under the Appliance Plan section in the sample contract, you’ll see that while refrigerators are covered, free-standing freezers, multi-media centers, and wine chillers are not.

Theft, vandalism, and natural disasters are not covered by AHS home warranties.

Claims & Repairs

Claims can be submitted online 24/7 or via phone. There is no limit to the number of repairs per contract term, but there are payment caps and other limitations that may apply.

For emergency repairs, AHS will determine what constitutes an emergency and will make a best effort to provide service as quickly as possible, but there are no guarantees for expedited services. For non-emergencies, AHS may accept requests for expedited services depending on the availability of nearby contractors.

In some cases, AHS may offer the ability to choose your own contractor, which is known as “Outside Authorizations”, but the contractor must be licensed where applicable, qualified, and insured. The contractor must also provide an itemized bid and full diagnosis to AHS before work is done.
