Overview

Choice Home Warranty is a company offering homeowners home repair services for important system components and home appliances that may break down or suffer wear and tear over time, like plumbing and electrical systems, kitchen appliances, heating and duct systems, air conditioning, and more.

A home warranty contract is great for covering repairs that aren’t covered by a typical home insurance policy and can help homeowners cover high repair costs.

Choice Home Warranty currently offers two plans: Basic and Total. You can also customize your plan to cover additional items not covered by their Basic and Total plans, like pool and spa, roof leaks, sump pump, and other repairs.

No home inspection is required, but they do charge a service call fee of $85 per claim for service provider visits.

While Choice Home Warranty only offers two plans—Basic and Total—customers are able to customize their plans and select add-ons to get more coverage.

Basic Plan – Their Basic plan covers some of the more popular home appliances and systems, including plumbing, electrical, water heater, dishwasher, and more.

Total Plan – Their Total plan covers everything the Basic plan covers, plus the air conditioning system, refrigerator, clothes washer, and clothes dryer.

You can get a quote for their plans plus add-ons online by filling out their online form. You can visit their website to find a comprehensive list of limits and exclusions for their coverage and plans.

After reviewing quotes from multiple locations, property types, and property sizes, prices for their Basic plan are currently $41 a month (or $470 a year) for homes smaller than 5,000 square feet and $50 a month (or $570 a year) for homes larger than 5,000 square feet.

For their total plan, prices are currently $66 a month (or $770 a year) for homes smaller than 5,000 square feet and $75 a month (or $870 a year) for homes larger than 5,000 square feet.

When requesting a quote, customers have the option of selecting additional coverage to see what the prices are.

Service Fees

  • $85 trade service fee per claim paid directly to the technician

Payout Caps

In the Choice Home Warranty Terms of Service Agreement, they state that they will pay up to a certain amount per contract term for access, diagnosis, and repair or replacement of specific items, which depends on the system or appliance. The payout cap is $3,000 per item.

Contracts are for 12 months, but customers can opt to pay by the month. Their website is fairly transparent when it comes to coverage options, pricing, limitations, and exclusions, as are most home warranty companies.

Unlike its competitors, however, Choice Home Warranty does not require a home inspection to get a plan.

They only offer two plans, but customers can customize and get additional coverage that suits them. Best of all, you can get a quote quickly by filling out their short online form. Based on our research, the most affordable plan is their Basic plan for homes smaller than 5,000 square feet. Larger homes and add-ons will drive up the cost.
